A rehabilitated bald eagle was released to the wild today in Berwick.
Before its release at the Berwick Boat Landing, Johnice Daniel, performed
Cherokee ceremonies designed to aid the raptor in its return to the wild.
Dr. Mark Mitchell, of the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary
Medicine and head of the school''s wildlife hospital, and Noel
Thisthlewaite, who owns the largest flight cage in Louisiana, were among
the officials present. The eagle, when freed, hopped out of the cage, took
a couple of steps and immediately took flight.
