Here in La.I have a friend who has the last name of Debois..He states he
is Indian.I tell him that is not poss.that his name is French.
I asked him what his name means in Indian and he says.I don't know. I
then tell him what it means in French. What do yall think?

Why can't he be both?

In Cajun areas, there was much intermarriage; primarily between
French, Acadian French, German, African, Indian and some other races.
In New Orleans, there was also much intermarriage, but was primarily
between French, Spanish, American, African, Italian and Germans.
