'Thunder Bay' extras recognized Tuesday.
An invitation is extended to any extras who were in the Thunder Bay
movie filmed in the Morgan City area in 1956 to attend the Artists Guild
Unlimiteds Spring Film Festival showing of that movie, which will begin
at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Everett Street Gallery.
Anyone having first-hand knowledge of the filming will be recognized
during the evening.
The plot of Thunder Bay involves an enterprising ex-Navy engineer, Steve
Martin, who comes to a Louisiana town in 1946 with a dream: To build a safe
platform for offshore oil drilling.
Having finessed financing from a big oil company, formerly penniless Steve
and his partner, Johnny Gambi, are committed to drilling for black gold
at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico.
But the local fishermen believe that the dynamite is killing the shrimp
and destroying their livelihood, and some not only threaten violence but
act on those threats with sabotage. Can they resolve the conflict?
Twenty copies of photos primarily from Thunder Bay are on exhibit with
an interpretation, and other posters and artifacts owned by collectors in
the area also are displayed. Dr. Gina MacDonald of Nicholls State
University will again lead the discussion.
This is the third in a series of four movies to be shown, with A Lesson
Before Dying, from the novel by Louisianas Ernest Gaines, to be the
fourth film on May 10.
For more information call the Everett Street Gallery at 385-9945 or call
