Anyone know how Welsh made out?
The I-10 overpass at Iowa is reported collapsed. Jennings took it pretty
tough (Tobacco Plus is toast) as well as Crowley. I'd say they probably
faired worse. Will kneaux more as soon as others return to that area...

Jennings area is still without power, heck the street to the north and
south, east and west of me don't have power... Eunice went down entirely
at 4am this morning and came back up around 11am. Most stores are trying
to open, refrigerated foods (milk, meats, etc) are unavailable, maybe
tomorrow I was told. Saw lots of people stocking up on alcohol though.
Listened to the police close stores last night because they were selling
liquor and not food items past the curfew hours. Curfew is still in
effect from 7pm to 6am. Crowley is saying that their water is safe to
drink, Opelousas is not. The in-laws home in Crowley was one of the
first to get power restored, much of it still doesn't have it though.
There are many towns being scrolled on teevee saying not to drink or
bath with the tap water. Most of the coastal towns are underwater from
Erath going west...

Jennings hospital will reopen Monday for admissions, ER and Xray, their
generator failed after 10 hours and it had to be evacuated during Rita.
Kinder hospital has already reopened. The power substation in the
Hathaway area and related power infrastructure won't be repaired for
another week to 10 days. So power will remain out for those north of
Jennings. Lots of traffic through Eunice, gas prices have hit $3 a
gallon here, with those selling gas selling out on a daily basis. All
the local shelters have reopened for Rita refugees. Lake Charles
hospitals will remained closed for the next month until services and
damage incurred can be repaired/restored...

Traffic is finally returning to somewhat normal in Eunice. The gas
stations aren't selling out everyday anymore and the price is down from
$3 to $2.79 over the weekend...

Had friends from Jennings over for BBQ Sunday, their diesel generator
failed and are now living in their outdoor kitchen with a small gas
generator to stay cool at night. Jeff Davis Electric/Entergy is saying a
week or 2 before their area has power restored. They've repaired the
downed lines at my brother-in-laws (2 doors south), transformer and pole
fell on his metal building and cleared the lines in the immediate area,
but have major problems in Hathaway from where that area is fed on the
Jennings northeast side. Bethel Baptist and along that highway have
power, as well as Hwy 26. They are telling my brother-in-law from Lake
Charles that it'll be a month before they can return to their
undamaged/unflooded home there. Their sanctuary at Glad Tidings is
totalled (+$3m) some damage to their new Childrens Church ($1.5m) and I
believe the school there was wiped out as well...

Powers backon at the lake home on south Toledo Bend, thought that would
be long in coming and were quite surprised that they restored it this
weekend. Our church shelter has 60+ from Katrina and Rita, Jen was
scheduled to cook tonight but they are doing sandwiches instead...

Keep hearing bad things about Lake Arthur, some we kneaux along the lake
at the campground are okay though. Neighbor went to Erath yesterday,
said its bad, really bad...

Was in Jennings today, large relief effort geauxing on with the military
and others on the site of the old Evangeline Refinery on the northeast
side on the Evangeline highway. They are routing 18 wheeler loads of
goods to each needy area from there as a staging point, same can be said
for the airport where they have a large tent city setup. Will get a
closer look see at that tomorrow...

Power was restored to the area my brother-in-law and friends live in
last Sunday evening, that was well over a week earlier than estimated.
My brother-in-law in Southeast Lake Charles got power restored today.
Neighbors parents returned to Sulphur yesterday when services were
restored there...

A major leap back into civilization for some of the residents of
southwest Louisiana. Many shelters still running in the Eunice area
though...
