Shooting victim identified as Katrina evacuee

Police have identified a Hurricane Katrina evacuee who was fatally shot early Saturday in southwest Houston as Rene Chaney Knox, 26.
Knox's body was found about 3:30 a.m. in the front seat of a 1998 Cadillac parked at an apartment complex in the 2700 block of West Bellfort, Houston police said. The former New Orleans resident had been struck several times.
Several witnesses told police they heard gunfire, then saw an unidentified man walking away from the car.
The gunman is a 6-foot-2 light-skinned black or Hispanic man who weighs about 180 pounds. He was wearing a black long-sleeved pullover shirt, black baseball shorts, black and red athletic shoes and a black baseball cap, HPD officials said.
